What are Endodontic Treatments?

Endodontics refers to the study, diagnosis, and treatment of the dental pulp. The dental pulp is located inside the inner chamber of the tooth. However, tooth decay and cavities make the tooth pulp prone to infection. Signs that you need to treat tooth decay can include severe tooth pain, gum tenderness, and sensitivity to hot and cold.

Dr. Ray Becker provides root canal treatment in Columbia, MD to fight infection and restore health to the teeth and gums. Root canals are a preventative measure against tooth loss. If a tooth becomes severely decayed, it may need to be removed.

Some patients may believe that the root canal procedure is painful. However, we use a local anesthetic to numb the treated area for a comfortable procedure. Our goal is to always treat patients with the most comfortable care possible.

Root Canal Treatment in Columbia, MD

To begin treatment, Dr. Becker applies an anesthetic to numb the tooth and the surrounding area for your comfort. Then, he will make a small opening on the tooth to access the pulp chamber and root canal. He will remove the infected pulp and clean and disinfect the canal. Dr. Becker will then seal the canal with a biocompatible material. Finally, the opening in the tooth is sealed with an adhesive to prevent future infection.

Post-Procedure Care

After your tooth has healed following your root canal procedure, we may cover the treated tooth with a dental crown. Dental crowns help protect the tooth if it is damaged and can add strength to the tooth structure. In addition, crowns can prevent wear and tear as well as reinfection. Remember to schedule regular dental appointments so we can keep an eye on the health of your teeth and gums.
